NDFB militant held in Sonitpur forest

A joint team of police and Army arrested a militant belonging to the NDFB's anti-talks faction at Sonai Rupai Reserve Forest in Sonitpur district early on Thursday.

Police said two grenades and several rounds of ammunition were found on Dilip Basumatary, the outfit's 'station commander' of Dhekiajuli. "The search operation is still continuing," a senior police officer said. On the other hand, officials of the CID's anti-narcotics cell arrested a drug peddler in the Chandmari area here on Thursday afternoon. "We found 940 gm of morpheme in powder form on Farid Hussain. He is a resident of Manipur's Thoubal district and had brought the contraband from that state," a source in the CID said.

Police are interrogating Farid and will produce him in the chief judicial magistrate's court here on Friday.
