HNLC warns Nepalese to refrain from attacking Khasi people
Shillong, Sep 26 : The banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has asked the
Nepalese community residing at the disputed Langpih village on the
Meghalaya-Assam border to refrain from harassing indigenous Khasi
people. We urge the Nepalese community not to create any trouble
in Langpih. If they continue to attack our people we can also hit back
in the same manner and target the Nepalese people in other parts of the
state, HNLC spokesman Sainkupar Nongtraw said. The HNLC
statement has come in the wake of an incident in Langpih where three
Khasi villagers were injured after they were allegedly attacked by a
group of Nepalese people on Thursday evening. Accusing the
Meghalaya government of failing to ensure the safety of Khasi people,
the militant outfit said, The government must take into consideration
that the people in border areas are bonafide citizens of the state and
deserve to be treated equally like any other people in the state.
The HNLC is a tribal Khasi militant outfit fighting for sovereign
Hynniewtrep homeland for the Khasi people.
