Shillong, Sep 29 : Senior IPS official N Ramachandran, who is known for his dare-devilry in handling crime, Wednesday took over as Meghalaya’s new director general of police, vowed to crush terrorism and to ensure each and every citizens are safe and secured.
In a brief take-over ceremony marked by bonhomie and in the presence of top police officers, Prem Singh handed over charge to his successor at the Police Headquarters here. Singh, who was officiating Meghalaya’s DGP, now is the new director general of civil defence and home guards.
“My top most priority is to ensure each and every citizen are safe and secured. We will involve the community in our endeavour, good quality communication and interaction with the citizens to ensure their security,” Ramachandran told journalists.
Vowing to crush anti-nationals elements (rebels), the former Superintendent of the elite Special Protection Force said, “ We (Meghalaya police) will be absolutely rude less in controlling the situation whoever indulges in heinous crime be it kidnappings, extortions and murder.”
He said that the state police will cooperate with BSF and other central agencies to make sure that our border are better and more protective and deal against militants effectively.
Asked on the prevailing law and order situation in western part of Meghalaya unleashed by the GNLA rebels, Ramachandran said, “ every one have the right to dissent, protest peacefully, intellectual pluralism since it is an inheritant part of our democratic system. However if they take law in their own hands, it is the duty of police to strictly enforce the law.”
